Chile Plantation Adopts Chinese Solar-Plus-Storage System to Say Goodbye to Diesel Generators

A 30-hectare soybean plantation in northern Chile has successfully completed the delivery and commissioning of its new solar-plus-storage project. Located in an off-grid area that previously relied entirely on diesel generators for power, this agricultural base has now integrated three sets of advanced solar-plus-storage systems provided by Jiangsu GSO Power. The new setup completely replaces diesel units, offering a one-stop power solution for water pump irrigation, agricultural drone spraying and field inspection, fast charging for new energy trucks, and daily residential electricity needs within the park.

1. The Limitations of Traditional Diesel Power in Modern Agriculture Without Grid Access

Situated in an open area in northern Chile with abundant solar resources, the plantation suffered from sparse public grid coverage and lacked access to municipal electricity. Relying on long-term diesel generation resulted in exorbitant fuel expenses driven by continuous irrigation pump operations. Furthermore, extreme weather conditions posed risks of fuel supply interruptions and sudden power outages, directly disrupting irrigation schedules.

As the plantation introduced agricultural drones for pesticide spraying, fertilization, and crop monitoring, alongside electric utility trucks, its electricity demands diversified. The client required not only high-power three-phase supply for irrigation pumps but also 60kW fast-charging capabilities for drones and electric fleet vehicles. High costs and unstable diesel generation could no longer keep pace with modern farming demands, making the deployment of an off-grid solar-plus-storage system a practical necessity.

2. Customized Solutions Tailored to Local Conditions and Parallel Operation Demands

The project team from Luyang New Energy conducted an in-depth survey of the site’s operating conditions. Balancing the requirement for two units to operate in parallel and one unit independently, they finalized the hardware configuration: three 125kW inverters paired with 241kWh outdoor energy storage cabinets.

Designed to withstand harsh local outdoor climates, the outdoor cabinets support both parallel-coordinated and standalone operation modes. They can easily absorb the high-power surge loads of irrigation pumps while satisfying fast-charging requirements and daily basic power needs, perfectly matching the mixed-load characteristics of multi-scenario agricultural operations.

3. Project Results: A Complete Break from Diesel Dependence

Once operational, the system leverages abundant local solar radiation, pairing photovoltaic generation with energy storage to ensure uninterrupted round-the-clock power supply. The project completely fulfills all power demands across the park, significantly slashing diesel procurement costs and eliminating production risks caused by fuel shortages or outages. Irrigation systems now run stably, while energy replenishment for agricultural drones, charging for new energy trucks, and community living power are fully secured.

4. Focusing on Overseas Off-Grid Scenarios and Delivering Practical Energy Storage Solutions

This Chilean plantation project serves as a prime real-world implementation of Jiangsu Luyang’s off-grid agricultural solutions in South America. Moving forward, the company will continue to target overseas agricultural power needs, delivering highly adaptable solar-plus-storage configurations tailored to local site conditions to empower South American agriculture in cutting costs and accelerating green transformation.
